Weekend Stuff & Links & Things

This weekend has been pretty wicked, as noted by the hangover I cannot seem to shake. Friday Josh and I went on a date to Go! Comedy for an improv and sketch comedy show. He has been considering taking classes there and wanted to check it out, and I’m pretty sure he was convinced it would be worth a try when he was wiping away tears from laughing so hard. I drank a Nutellatini and have never felt more like a lady in my goddamn life.

Last night we headed to The Majestic to see RJD2 (dude in the video up there). I know I’ve mentioned RJD2 like 14,000 times on here, he does the Mad Men theme song and I have become about 90% dependent on his music if I want to have a productive workday. He puts on an amazing show and I realized I am old because I can no longer drink and dance for hours like I used to do at that very same venue for Dubstep shows. It was still worth it, especially since he came out wearing what appeared to be a Bugle Boy striped shirt and totally looks like the guy you sat next to in 11th grade biology who your Mom wanted you to date because he is “such a nice boy” and always made the honor roll.

Links! Here are a few good reads from the week.

+ Interesting photos of rural Chinese families and everything they own.

+ 24 lies people like to tell women.

9. You owe strange men on the street who call out to you and make you feel uncomfortable to smile at them and cheerfully dismiss their advances.

10. If you don’t smile, and you don’t make yourself as amicable as possible while getting away, you are guilty of being a frigid bitch.

11. If you are too friendly, you’re leading them on.

+ Why do you need feminism?

+ Why you should do your job, not follow your dreams. I love everything about this (via Rachel)

+ It’s not natural to work full-time. I swear, it’s like everyone on the Internet is saying things that make sense this week!

+ Totally want to try every scent of this “manly” soap. Particularly curious how close the “cash” scent smells like actual dollah bills. Insert cheesy stripper joke here.

+ How much do you really need? I think about this all the time, even though I really don’t have THAT much stuff. Still, I own far more than the essentials.

+ Ladies’ night is a scam. Yup.

+ 12 fruits and veggies that last for months.

+ You had ONE job! (thanks Cassie)

OMG, the links. I can personally vouch for part-time vs. full-time debate, especially after having just recently gone FT after a year and-a-half of PT at the same job. You just get more done in a shorter amount of time. And then you leave work still feeling like you might actually be able to accomplish other things and be fulfilled. It’s been a rough adjustment to say the least.

And the feminism and the minimalism… this is a wonderful round-up.

Hey doll! I saw on my post about minimalism that it almost makes you wish you could pack up and ‘go’…you have to read my follow-up post. Seriously! This guy is incredible.

GREAT set of links, Mandy, thanks!

“When you see making art as your job, you put your gifts, energy, time and knowledge in the service of others. You’re not creating stuff just because it pleases you, but because it solves a problem for your customers.” – LOVE that. Important reminder to self.

And yeah, I’ve always thought job-sharing was the best way for everyone (generally speaking) to live. But Capitalism will never allow it.
